Writing tip 10:
Try using a wildly in inappropriate tone. Write about a mundane event in an epic tone for humorous effect. Write about a disturbing event in a casual tone to make the reader uncomfortable.
Anthony Burgess did this very effectively in Clockwork Orange: Alex uses a very casual tone when discussing rape, murder and suicide. The effect is chilling.
